We are delighted to have the company of the living legend Stan Cottrell joining us today to discuss Global friendship run project. Ultra Distance Runner Stan Cottrell has taken on perhaps what is the most significant challenge of his life as Friendship Sports Association launches The Great Global Friendship Run – with a goal of raising more than $1 Billion USD for children in need all over the world.
The Great Global Run Project entails passing the baton of friendship around the world by having Stan Cottrell run 34 miles per day, 2 days a week in all countries. He sends an open collaborative opportunity to leaders who would take up the challenge of organizing this fund raising exhibition in their nations. Ethiopia has already taken up the first challenge.
The pressing questions are:
What is exactly entailed in this project?
How can a country get involved?
Why are they doing this project?
How are they going to accomplish this challenge?
And much more…
Stan Cottrell is an award winning, world renowned, ultra distance runner. He held the Guinness World Record for his 3,103.5 mile Trans-USA (east to west) run in 48 days, 1 hr. 47 min., breaking the prior record by 5 days (that’s an average of 66 miles per day). Another of Stan’s renowned accomplishments was running from Edinburgh, Scotland to the Rock of Gibraltar in 80 consecutive days, 80 Km /day through 12 countries. In 1984, Stan ran 2,153 miles from the Great Wall of China to Guangzhou. Now at 70 years old, Stan has more than 200,000 ultra distance miles through 38 countries in his portfolio.
Stan believes that Sports is a powerful communicator and can open doors that cross cultural and political boundaries. In 1984, he founded Friendship Sports Association, Inc. (FSA), a charity with focus on the “Friendship Run” based on the principles that unique athletic events, ultra-distance runs, health and fitness, conditioning and nutrition, camps, seminars and cultural activities can break down walls of misunderstanding between nations and peoples, foster cross-cultural understanding, communication, friendship and cooperation, and spread hope and help in the world, especially for the downtrodden and children. He is constantly taking up new challenges. His new adventure and epic odyssey of global friendships is scheduled to commence in Ethiopia this year, 2013. Follow and “like” The Great Global Friendship Run on Facebook, and learn more about Stan Cottrell on FriendshipSports.org.

What The World Needs Now
This show was above and beyond what anyone could have expected. With no rehearsal, with only last-minute education by Wale Idris Ajubade who provided us with this opportunity for a show on African Views, yet with such excellent cooperation and collaboration by everyone who spoke on this show, we have an example of Mandated Action for What The World Needs Now: http://abc4all.net/wtwnn.htm. Thanks to ALL who made this possible.
