The United States African Development Foundation has committed new funds to serve marginalized communities in Cape Verde.  The funding will benefit Associação das Mulheres Batucadeiras de Alto Gouveia (AMBAG) and Associação dos Trabalhadores para Defesa e Conservação da Biodiversidade (Biodiversidade).  Both organizations face similar challenges to overcoming poverty.


The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) welcomed USADF grantee Janet Nkubana from Rwanda during a special grant signing ceremony at its Washington, DC headquarters today.  USADF awarded Gahaya Links a grant to support the community focused company.


Jack Leslie, Chairman of the United States African Development Foundation (USADF), met with approximately 300 farmers from the Zikometso Smallholder Farmers Association (Zikometso) in Mulanje today.  Zikometso, which received an USADF grant in 2009, is a 4,000 member association of smallholder farmers.  The grant was co-funded by the Government of Malawi.  Forty percent of Zikometso members are women.  The group is located in the Thyolo, Mulanje, and Phalombe districts of Malawi.  Zikometso assists farmers to increase incomes and standards of living by helping members to grow and market high quality birds’ eye chilies. 


In an effort to improve people’s livelihoods, the United States African Development Foundation has signed two grants to benefit grassroots cooperatives in Liberia. The grants will benefit the Gbalin Women Multipurpose Development Cooperative Society, Ltd. (GBMDCS) and Glahkon Bamboo Furniture Company (Glahkon). 


The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) signed two grants to support marginalized community groups in Benin.  The grants will benefit  Cercle de Recherche et d’Appui pour un Développement Durable (CRADD) and Groupement villageois d’éleveurs de lapin Houénoussou (Houénoussou). 


The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) signed two grants to support women rice producers in Burkina Faso.  The grants will benefit Union de Groupements des Etuveuses de Riz de Bama (UGER) and Union Départemental des Transformatrices et Etuveuses de Riz de Banzon (UDTER).


Reaffirming its commitment to create and sustain jobs, the United States African Development Foundation has signed two grants to benefit grassroots cooperatives in Liberia. The grants will benefit the Standard Metal Workshop/Garage (SMWG) and Youth for Development and Progressive Actions (YDPA).


The United States African Development Foundation has signed five grants totaling US$477,039 to support grassroots groups in Liberia. The grants will benefit Agriculture Relief Services (ARS), Committee for Peace and Development Advocacy, Inc (COPDA). Kokoyah Multipurpose Cooperative and Development Societ (Kokoyah), Mamadee Konneh United Blacksmith Shop, and SAMJAC Agro Industry.


The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) welcomed the Cape Verde Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Fátima Veiga, for a ceremony recognizing seven USADF funded projects in Cape Verde this year. 


The United States African Development Foundation has signed three grants to support community groups dedicated to food production in Uganda.  The grants will benefit BUFA Cooperative Society Limited, Numa Feeds Limited (NFL), and St. Luke Farmers Cooperative Society Limited.
