Pan African Unity Dialogue 
 Report Back from World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures Forum

At the last meeting of the Pan African Unity Dialogue in 2010, I pledged to make another push to build this umbrella formation into a model for operational unity and joint action among continental Africans, Caribbean Americans, Afro-Latinos and African Americans as we seek to create a strong base for Black power for people of African descent in the U.S. and the Pan African World. 
 
Thanks to Dr. Leonard Jeffries, in December I was blessed to participate in the Third World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures in Dakar Senegal. convened by President Abdoulaye Wade. Dr. Julius Garvey, GordonTapper, Mamadou Niang and Senator Bill Perkins were among those who participated in the World Festival who have attended meetings of PAUD. The World Festival focused on the concept an African Renaissance to promote the vision of Pan Africanism. It was an amazing experience that further convinced me of the absolute value and necessity of initiatives like PAUD in the Diaspora. For how can we have an African Renaissance and realize Pan Africanism if we in the Diaspora cannot find the will, discipline and commitment to gather around the table on a regular basis to share information about our respective organizations, build relationships and develop a consensus on an achievable agenda of joint action?  I am convinced that PAUD is a vehicle to foster an affirmative response to this question. Accordingly, I hope we will collectively redouble the effort to make PAUD an effective mechanism for unity and action in 2011.
 
In terms of an agenda, we are asking Dr. Leonard Jeffries, Dr. Julius Garvey, Mamadou Niang, Senator Bill Perkins and others who attended the World Festival to share their reflections and discuss the implications of this historic event for revitalizing Pan Africanism in the 21st Century.Dr. Runoko Rashidi, author and lecturer who made a brilliant presentation at the World Festival, has agreed to attend as our Special Guest. We have also invited the Senegalese Ambassador to attend. In addition, we should have updates on Immigration Policy Reform, the crisis in Haiti and the Declaration of Principles for Foreign Investment in Africa.  
 
Immediately after the PAUD Session, the Institute of the Black World 21st Century will host a public forum on the topic - Toward an African Renaissance: Rekindling the Spirit of  Pan Africanism in the 21st Century.  The Forum will essentially be a Report Back from the World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures.
